Italy's first black cabinet minister, is not going to sleep until the Jus soli law to grant citizenship to children of immigrants born on Italian soil, effectively gets going.
This, with her political activism resulted to her election in 2004 into the municipal government of former left party, Modena for the Democratici di Sinistra, One time Prime Minister D’Alema was of same party. Then later, in 2010 she became national spokesperson of "March First", an Italian association that protects the rights of migrants. When she was elected to the national parliament in 2013, she was amongst those at the forefront of a campaign to introduce a right to citizenship for people born in Italy, and immigrants born to Italian parents.
